The quick rundown:
I am best known for my art on coffee cups <see video>, but for the past 4 years, I have also been documenting my day to day life in my blog.
I kept it really simple, because I don't like reading long blogs. A couple of simple panels of stick figures and a sentence or two accompanying it to sum up my day. My subjects included things like: what I did at work, who I met, what I had for dinner, spending way too much time at the toothpaste aisle deciding if I wanted "tartar control" or "whitening" and my dating nightmares.
Initially, my mundane life attracted just a handful of readers, made up of my mom, relatives and a few curious strangers. The numbers kept growing, and 4 years later, that base grew to a couple of hundred readers a day.
What this taught me is that, no matter how "boring" your life is, it is interesting to someone out there. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. So I have decided to write a book about my childhood, and it has been an ongoing project of mine for the past 3 years.
To new readers, this book would be an insight to growing up in Asia, a reminder of their own childhood and their relationship with the people and the pets they grew up with. To the existing readers of my blog, this would provide an excellent insight to how I went from being an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan. Ya.
The funding I receive from you guys will go into putting the book together. Additional money will be used for creating promotional items for the blog. I am thinking T-shirts, figurines, and if the book does well, there will be a second, and I'll use whatever money is left for that. Part of the sales of the book will also go to charity, probably the ones that helps build schools or end world hunger.
"Those are big dreams Boey."
Well, that's the one thing I do a lot of that doesn't require funding. ;)
